FYI: What the Copeland Compressor model number breakdown is What the Copeland Compressor model number breakdown is Example for ZR34K3-PFV-830 Z = Scroll R = R22 Refrigerant 34 = BtuK/hr or 34,000 Btu/hr and is equivalent to 3 Tons ( an acceptable Btu difference is + or - 3) K3 = is the revision of this type of compressor and is not important when choosing a replacement PFV = mounting and voltage (as long as the previous compressor has this, then you are OK) 830 - is the Bill of Material that Copeland assigns. This number changes for all replacement compressors and is not critical. Serial experiments lain ost rar. In summary the following model features are critical and need to be the same ZR34K3 and PFV.
JW just some minor notes: The R means R-22 refrigerant in High Temp applications, there is also B which means R-22 for Medium/High Temp applications. The K means multiply the number before by 1,000 (34 X 1000=34,000). If you see M it means that you multiply by 10,000. The following digit is the version or revision as you stated. The Electrical characteristics PFV (phase, motor protection, rated voltage) must pretty much be the same, that is unless your distributor has OEM access level at Emerson. The BOM is not critical if you are willing to add or remove components from the compressors ( CKH, ROTOLOCK Valves etc). Go ahead and swap that compressor in practice it wont make a difference.

However remember R-22 begins phase out next year. Why not sell your customer a new unit? Or perhaps offer a retrofit?
As long as it is 220 volt and R22 anythang would be better than what they have now. I might just make a run to mississippi and see if they have a Katrina compressor laying around. The damn trouble is we have a steel mill that is making rebar here and another german steel mill being built dammit. They are paying big money now for scrap metal that used to be worth nothing.
